Why You Should Roll With Filter Tips

05/08/21

Joint rolling is an essential skill for any self-respecting smoker.

Because while we love our bongs and pipes, at the end of the day it’s hard to argue with the practicality of a joint - they’re quick, easy and an ideal choice for sharing with others.  They’re also super portable and easy to take with you when you’re on the go.

And when it comes to putting your joints together, the filter tip is an often overlooked component that can really make or break that perfect roll.

Here’s why you should consider picking up a pack.

What Is A Filter Tip?

Also referred to as a “crutch”, a filter tip is exactly what it sounds like - an optional tip at the end of a joint that filters out impurities.

And while some old school smokers may deride its use as unnecessary, taking the time to roll your joints with one of these bad boys comes with some pretty considerable advantages.

It’s Cleaner (And It Tastes Better)

No one likes a mouthful of scooby snacks.  Just like a screen on your bowl, a filter tip on your joint can help catch debris, resulting a much more pleasant experience.

And it’s not just keeping those little bits of weed out of your mouth - a filter can help reduce harsh and harmful toxins.  It can also improve airflow for a better burn.  The result is a smoother, tastier smoke that lets more of the flavor from your favorite cannabis (think of all those tasty terpenes) come through without the nastiness.

It’s More Hygienic

The only thing worse than breathing in a mouthful of debris is puffing on a soggy joint.  This is something that’s happened to almost everyone at a smoke sesh - it’s gross, kills the mood and isn’t exactly sanitary.  It’s also something that can easily be avoided by simply including something that doesn’t absorb as much saliva.

It Makes Rolling Easier

While some purists may give you a hard time for “cheating”, the fact of the matter is that a filter tip can make rolling a joint exponentially faster and easier (even for experienced rollers).  Including a filter tip at the end of your joint provides a nice stable foundation to work with and can help you get that even roll with much more consistency.

Less Wasted Weed

Not only does having this foundation at the base of your joint make it easier to roll, it also gives you something sturdy to hold onto and helps keep the whole thing together (particularly important if you’re passing it around a lot), meaning that it’s a lot less likely to fall apart on you (remember, you pay good money for your pot).

The addition of a filter tip also provides space between the burning ember and your fingertips.  This means that you’ll be able to smoke your joints right down to the base.

No more roaches, burnt fingers and wasted weed.
