Bongs Vs Pipes - Which Glass Piece Is Right For You?

03/07/21

The pipe has earned its place in the hearts of cannabis enthusiasts.  They’re trusty, reliable, and have been around since, well, the beginning of smoking.

And when it comes to choosing the right tool for the job, the battle of the pipes really comes down to the water pipe (aka “bong”) verses the handheld glass pipe.

So, if you’re just getting started in the weed game, here are a few things you might want to consider before picking up one or the other.

Pros Of The Bong

The first, and most obvious, difference is the fact that a bong is a water pipe rather than a dry pipe.

And while it is a matter of personal preference, filtering your smoking through water does have some pretty serious advantages.  While it may be a bit trickier to set up initially, bongs are great for beginners because they hit a lot smoother and make inhaling a lot easier.

In fact, using a water pipe doesn’t just lead to a smoother smoke, it may lead to a healthier one as well.  While the jury is still out, there is some evidence that a water pipe may filter out some of the toxins while leaving THC relatively intact.

Lastly, if you’re not really a solo smoker and enjoy consuming cannabis with friends and loved ones, having a nice, beautiful glass bong on your living room table is essential for any smoke sesh.

Downsides Of The Bong

While a water pipe comes with significant advantages, it also comes with a few downsides as well.

The first is mobility.  That beautiful glass bong we talked about that looks so nice on your table or mantle?  Well, it’s not exactly easy to pack up and take with you if you’re on the go.

Another downside is the cleaning aspect of it.  If you’re a, ahem, responsible and sanitary individual, you’re gonna be changing your bong water every time you use it and taking it apart to scrub it regularly - and that can be kind of a pain.

Pros Of The Pipe

By far, the two biggest advantages of a dry glass pipe are portability and ease of use.

You don’t have to mess around with all the bells and whistles that come with a bong, and it’s super easy to bring a pipe with you on the go.  This is fantastic for busy smokers and those who require a little more discretion.

There’s also the cost factor - it you’re just starting to build up your cannabis arsenal, it may make more sense to start with a $20 pipe than a $100 bong.

Downsides Of The Pipe

The lack of water filtration is an obvious downside to the pipe, and means that you’re going to have to deal with drier, harsher hits.

But the simple structure of a handheld pipe in general also means that it’s easier to end up with a mouthful of ash and debris.  While this can be rectified somewhat by adding a screen, it is definitely something to consider.

How To Choose The Right Glass Pipe Or Bong

Whether you ultimately decide to go with a bong or pipe (or both), you’re going to want something that’s durable and well made.

Cheap, thin, poorly constructed glass is a nightmare.  The LAST thing you want is your pipe shattering in your pocket, or your bong cracking during a smoke sesh.

Rekt’s products are constructed with that in mind - solid, sturdy glass pieces that meld quality materials and craftsmanship with affordable prices.  All our pipes and bongs come in multiple sizes and designs, regardless of which option you end up going with.
